Brave Team Tweets
Johnny is speaking in Amsterdam today about ePrivacy Regulation.
Did you know? Brave blocks some scripts for dark patterns.
@dansereduick @random_walker We already block tons of scripts involved in dark patterns. LMK if we miss something commonly used, we’ll block it. cc: @pes10k @convoluted_code
We don’t know (and don’t want to know) your web surfing data.
@XrpCenter @GermanCryptoInv @brave We don’t know our users’ surfing data. ZKPs and blinded signatures, c’mon — it is 2019 already!
Brave is at 2.2 million DAILY active users!
@at_hallett @BraveSampson 2.2M - switched off some growth spend that had low retention, preparing to turn on higher retention channel now.
Brave aims to have ads available in most countries by the end of the year.
@BraveSampson @jamoustrading Yep. We aim to have Brave Ads available in most countries by end of year. Stay tuned.
It is impressive, isn’t it Sampson?
Every time I think about what we’re building, I can’t help but to be impressed. Brave Ads (User Model):
Pays 70% to the user
ML & improves w/ time
No Data leaks
Protects Brand Safety
Here’s something interesting Johnny found.
Here is a thread in which the boss of the IAB (adtech/tracking industry’s main trade body) fights with DCN CEO (publisher trade body). For context, adtech businesses are growing huge as publishers collapse. https://t.co/tP4SGsVKws
Can you imagine paying for ads and having 55-70% of it going to a bunch of middlemen?
@KarstenW Several things destroying news are the fault of the IAB and adtech, including audience arbitrage from RTB, bot fraud enabled by personal data in bid requests that diverts cash from publishers, and of course 55-70% adtech tax.
BAT/Brave in the News
In Rust we trust: Brave smashes speed limit after rewriting ad-block engine in super-lang
Software engineers working on the Brave browser have rewritten the browser’s ad blocking engine in Rust and seen massive speed increases as a result.
In a blog post on Wednesday, Brave Software performance researcher Andrius Aucinas and chief scientist Ben Livshits said that rewriting Brave’s built-in ad blocker in Mozilla-spawned Rust resulted in an average 69x improvement in the amount of time required to process web requests.
News You Should Know
Hmmm…. What’s Facebook and Google up to now?
I’m not sending link but Google and Facebook’s reps (called the Internet Association), just launched a propaganda site intended to undermine new California privacy law (CCPA) by confusing public into thinking their surveillance advertising is necessary to fund free content. Lies.
Google’s new reCAPTCHA has a dark side
According to two security researchers who’ve studied reCaptcha, one of the ways that Google determines whether you’re a malicious user or not is whether you already have a Google cookie installed on your browser. It’s the same cookie that allows you to open new tabs in your browser and not have to re-log in to your Google account every time. But according to Mohamed Akrout, a computer science PhD student at the University of Toronto who has studied reCaptcha, it appears that Google is also using its cookies to determine whether someone is a human in reCaptcha v3 tests.
The Privacy Project
Companies and governments are gaining new powers to follow people across the internet and around the world, and even to peer into their genomes. The benefits of such advances have been apparent for years; the costs — in anonymity, even autonomy — are now becoming clearer. The boundaries of privacy are in dispute, and its future is in doubt. Citizens, politicians and business leaders are asking if societies are making the wisest tradeoffs. The Times is embarking on this monthslong project to explore the technology and where it’s taking us, and to convene debate about how it can best help realize human potential.
Long time back, I move away from chrome browser to @brave on my android.
Today I am doing the same on my mac and making #brave as my default browser.
Going to try out this @brave browser. I hope I don’t return to Chrome.
Shout Out to Team Brave/Bat…Great Job Everyone-(We Got Eyes!!)
Started using Brave Browser 2 days ago and already 1K ads were blocked. Thank you Brave Browser community and to those who recommended it.
