COMMUNITY: Refreshing the Verified Publishers List in Brave (Video tutorial by Dan Murphy)

There’s a new feature Brave v0.64.76 to help you refresh the verified publishers list.

This is useful if you’ve recently verified a site and it’s not showing as verified. Or, if you know of a site that is verified is not showing as verified, try refreshing the list.

Evidence that Google and Facebook are collaboring with data sharing? Luke weighs in:

Luke Mulks @lukemulks @thezedwards @therevoltingx @BrendanEich @kylemclaren @flamsmark @bcrypt @brianbondy Google’s DoubleClick ads have been able run within Facebook Instant Articles for a long time, so the crossover isn’t entirely unexpected. ID sync and audience sharing would make sense, given that people are likely to use their Google auth for FB. May 14 2019

Johnny comments on complaints against Quantcast’s “suspected infringement.”

Johnny Ryan @johnnyryan This piece from @kfeldman (@Quantcast’s CEO) says that Quantcast’s “consent” widget is active on 25K websites. This is deeply troubling. Among other things, the widget makes the “I do not consent” button optional, which is yet one more reason for the consent to be invalid. 3/ May 10 2019

News You Should Know:

It’s Time to Break Up Facebook

“Mark’s personal reputation and the reputation of Facebook have taken a nose-dive. The company’s mistakes — the sloppy privacy practices that dropped tens of millions of users’ data into a political consulting firm’s lap; the slow response to Russian agents, violent rhetoric and fake news; and the unbounded drive to capture ever more of our time and attention — dominate the headlines. It’s been 15 years since I co-founded Facebook at Harvard, and I haven’t worked at the company in a decade. But I feel a sense of anger and responsibility.”

Google is about to have a lot more ads on phones

Google searches on mobile will soon include “gallery” ads that allow advertisers to display multiple images for users to swipe through. You’ll also begin to see ads in Google’s discover feed — the feed of news stories that you find built into many Android home screens, inside the Google app, and on Google’s mobile homepage — though they’ll only appear in select locations for now.

San Francisco Bans Facial Recognition Technology
